a poem from the graveyard...🌱.. . .
i walked through the graveyard north of my cousin's house today.
and as i walked back i saw a child getting dropped off at his doorstep by the school bus,
last kid on the route,
welcomed by his parents and his older brother.
and i miss it—
every ounce and detail of that perfect-americana propoganda childhood.
i miss every ounce i experienced and every ounce i didnt.
the crows swung low on windy skies this afternoon,
tossed by currents down towards the gridded grasses.
two of 'em followed me all up and down the yard,
swooping from tree to tree
as i walked on that last ounce of the hundreds of each of us that will never leave this plane, plain and green.
the body of a child, always looking up towards that high shelf where a family's-worth of flowers and cards and pots and her old, worn minnie mouse plush sit.
she (arms outstretched) waits for her father to lift her up his whole-stature's-high,
high enough to reach it.
(wanted to post something since it's been a while, this is what i had the energy to write. hope you are having a lovely day ♥️)
....struggling through finals week ....
I am currently in the last week of my semester at school. Navigating all of my final projects with moving out of my dorm has been such a juggling act, and I am so ready to get home and pass out for a week. I hope to be able to dedicate more time to this site once summer starts; all I've been thinking about the past few days are a million different ideas I have for new pages to add :-)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the work I've done this semester. I'm a visual art student, so every semester I find myself forced to confront the body of work I've made over the past few months and ask myself, "am I even going anywhere with this? am I proud of this?" I can happily report this semester that I think I am! I have been making some paper sculpture work that I'm really proud of, and I feel like I have been developing in a lot of different mediums/practices. I finally feel like I can distill some signs of my hand that are unique to me, which is a really satisfying feeling.
I hope to post some of my work here soon, but that will have to wait until summer! "(っ- ‸ - ς)ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁
: a new-old obsession
I was recently reminded of this game when looking for inspiration for a painting I have been working on for class. I remember watching my cousins (funnily enough) crouched on the floor of my aunt's sitting room playing katamari when I was a kid, and it still holds such a wonderful nostalgia for me. I have to go boot it up again sometime soon, maybe once my semester is over!
